2009 Magic Valley Dairy Days
Everyone looks forward to M.V. Dairy Days every year. This year was no exception. The planning, the obstacles, the fun, it all proved that regardless of what happens, "The Show Must Go On!"
Changes in the watering system provided a challenge to the Chamber of Commerce in getting potable water to the vendor. Pres. Dan Neal worked with Bob Bailey, Fire Chief and solved the problem by running water lines off the fire hydrants. The next obstacle which has been year long was the wind and rain. This year there was an abundance of rain and the grounds were soggy. The Parks & Rec Department was worried about the damage that would be caused by driving on the lawns. The increase in rain also caused plenty of growth on the tennis court (cow corral). Thanks to the efforts of Derrick Lamm of Parks and Rec, the Wendell City Park was clean and ready to go for the MV Dairy Days Celebration. The wind took its toll on the Chamber Booth on Thursday, breaking a leg, but due to the ingeniuty of Rita Conklin it was back up and ready to go. Things were looking pretty good on Friday as the vendors checked in with Rita, Dairy Days Chair. When everyone left on Friday, we were hopeful that things would go well on Saturday.
The rain fell all night Friday and Saturday looked grim for all. The question was whether of not it would clear. Calls were coming in as to whether or not the parade would go on. Tents had collapsed due to the large amount of rain that had fallen throughout the night. It was like a miracle as the time got closer for the parade. The rain stopped, the sky began to clear and the fun began. The parade went on, the crowds moved to the park afterwards and the entertainment began. Everyone was relieved to see the sun and things were drying out.
There was much to do from the rides at the carnival to Samson the mechanical bull. There was plenty to eat and great entertainment on the stage all day long. For those who stayed all day, the day was finished with a performance at the Wendell High School by the Snake River Performers - "Hub City Follies". It was an exciting week, bigger and better than every and the ground work for next year has already began.
