On Friday, February 27, 2009 the City of Wendell turned out to welcome the Special Olympians on their journey to the 2009 Winter Special Olympics in Boise, Idaho. The Team was greeted at the Subway parking lot and cheered all the way to the High School. Children from all three local schools watched and cheered them on as they ran into the High School auditorium. They held the torch high and inspired us all to be all we can be.
Police Chief Kurtus Gaston welcomed the athletes and police officers. Chamber President Dan Neal presented the team with a Centennial Shirt and Mayor Rick Cowen declared February 27, 2009 Special Olympics Day in Wendell, Idaho.
The special olympians returned the warm welcome that Wendell gave to the team by singing "Happy Birthday" to Wendell to commerate our Centennial Year.
